Front yard landscape renovations

The front yard is the part of your property everyone sees. A renovation replaces a tired lawn, thin rock and overgrown shrubs with a clean, low-water landscape that suits the house.

We design and install front yards as a complete job: new rock, plants and irrigation, with paving, turf and lighting where they add to it.

What we install

  • Lawn conversion

Replacing a thirsty front lawn with rock and planting, or with artificial turf.

  • Rock and plant refresh

New decorative rock, boulders and desert-adapted plants on updated irrigation.

  • Entry and walkway

A paver or travertine path and entry that lead visitors to the front door.

  • Driveway borders and lighting

Paver borders or extensions along the driveway, and lighting for the path and the front of the house.

Materials and design

The house
Rock color, plants and paving are chosen to go with the architecture, the roof and the exterior colors.
Layout
Taller plants and trees frame the house. Lower planting and rock keep the entry and windows open.
Upkeep
Plant choice and spacing decide how much trimming the yard will need in years to come.

Built for Arizona

  • Low-water front yards suit the climate and most community landscape guidelines.
  • HOAs often list approved plants and rock and require approval before work begins. Check your community's guidelines early.
  • Shade trees placed on the west and south sides help cool the front of the house.

How the installation goes

Installed by Horizon’s own crew. We do not subcontract our landscape installations.

  1. Design

We agree a layout and materials that suit the house and meet your HOA's rules.

  2. Removal

Old lawn, plants and rock are taken out and the ground is graded.

  3. Irrigation

Lines are installed or updated for the new planting.

  4. Planting and paving

Trees, plants and any paving are installed.

  5. Rock and lighting

Rock or turf finishes the surface, and lighting is installed and aimed.

Common questions

Will my HOA allow me to change the front yard?

Most do, within their guidelines, and most require you to submit a plan first. Rules differ between communities, so read yours before settling on plants and materials.

Can I do the front yard now and the back later?

Yes. Many homeowners start with the front. If you expect to do both, a plan covering the whole property keeps them consistent.
