Plant and tree installation

Plants are what make a rock-and-paver yard feel like a garden. In Arizona the right ones also give shade, privacy and color for very little water.

We choose plants for the sun each spot gets and for the size they will reach, then plant them with irrigation to each one. Getting the selection and spacing right at the start avoids crowding, constant pruning and replacements.

What we install

  • Shade trees

Desert-adapted trees such as palo verde, mesquite and ironwood, placed to shade patios and windows.

  • Shrubs and color

Flowering, low-water shrubs and groundcovers that carry color through the year.

  • Cacti and succulents

Agave, yucca, barrel cactus and similar plants that add form and need almost no water.

  • Privacy planting

Hedges and screening plants along walls and property lines.

Materials and design

Mature size
A plant in a small nursery container can become very large. Spacing is set for the size it will be, not the size it arrives.
Exposure
A west-facing wall with reflected heat is a different place to grow than the shaded north side of the house.
Water grouping
Plants with similar water needs go on the same irrigation zone so none is over- or under-watered.

Built for Arizona

  • Desert-adapted and native plants handle the summer with far less water than plants from wetter climates.
  • Fall and spring are the easiest seasons for new plants to establish. Summer planting works with careful watering.
  • Some trees and cacti are thorny or drop litter. Placement near walkways, pools and play areas takes that into account.

How the installation goes

Installed by Horizon’s own crew. We do not subcontract our landscape installations.

  1. Selection

Plants are chosen for each location's sun, space and purpose.

  2. Placement

Plants are set out in position so spacing and sight lines can be checked before digging.

  3. Planting

Holes are dug wide, plants are set at the right depth, and trees are staked where needed.

  4. Irrigation

Each plant is connected to drip irrigation and the zone is tested.

Common questions

Which plants do best in the Phoenix area?

Desert-adapted trees, shrubs, cacti and succulents. The best choice for a given spot depends on its sun exposure, the space available and how much shade, color or privacy you want.

Can you plant without installing irrigation?

New plants need consistent water to establish, so every plant we install is connected to irrigation, either a new system or an extension of yours.

Do you take care of the plants afterwards?

No. We design and install. We do not offer ongoing maintenance, pruning or gardening visits.
