Aluminum pergola installation
Shade decides whether a patio gets used in Arizona. A pergola turns an exposed slab into an outdoor room and gives the yard a structure to arrange seating, dining and a kitchen around.
Every pergola we build is aluminum, carried on steel posts set in large concrete footings, and comes with a 25-year warranty. We build attached, freestanding and cantilever designs, and can fit them with misters, fans and lights.

25-year warranty
Every pergola we build comes with a 25-year warranty. A structure made from aluminum and steel, set in concrete, is built to be there for decades, and the warranty reflects that.
What we install
Attached
Fixed to the house to extend the covered patio out into the yard.
Freestanding
A stand-alone structure set out in the yard over a seating area, dining table or outdoor kitchen.
Cantilever
Posts on one side only, with the roof reaching out over the space. This leaves the area underneath open, with no posts in the way.
Misters, fans and lights
Add-ons that make the space usable in summer and after dark. They are planned in from the start so lines and wiring are concealed.
Materials and design
- Aluminum structure
- Aluminum does not rot, warp or split, and it does not need the regular sealing or repainting that wood needs in the Arizona sun.
- Steel posts in concrete
- The posts are steel, set in large concrete footings. That is what gives the structure its strength and holds it down in monsoon winds.
- Size and position
- Height, depth and orientation are set for the sun the pergola has to block and for the furniture and walkways under it.
Built for Arizona
- The afternoon sun from the west is the one to block. Position and orientation are chosen with that in mind.
- Monsoon storms bring strong gusts. Steel posts in large concrete footings keep the structure anchored.
- Misters and a fan can make a shaded patio comfortable on days when shade alone is not enough.
- HOAs and cities often have rules on height, placement and whether a permit is needed. These are checked during planning.
How the installation goes
Installed by Horizon’s own crew. We do not subcontract our landscape installations.
Design
We set the type, size, height and position, and decide on misters, fans and lights.
Footings
Large footings are dug and the steel posts are set in concrete.
Structure
The aluminum beams and roof members are installed and squared.
Add-ons
Mister lines, fans and lighting are installed, connected and tested.

Explore Our WorkCommon questions
Why aluminum and not wood?
Wood dries out, cracks and fades quickly in this climate and has to be refinished every few years. Aluminum keeps its shape and finish with very little care, which is why it is the only material we build pergolas from.
What warranty comes with a pergola?
Our aluminum pergolas carry a 25-year warranty.
What is a cantilever pergola?
A pergola supported from one side, so the roof extends out over the patio with no posts at the front. It suits spaces where posts would block a view, a walkway or a pool edge. The steel posts and concrete footings are sized to carry the overhang.
Can misters, fans and lights be added later?
They can, but it is neater and usually simpler to include them in the original build, when water lines and wiring can be run out of sight.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval?
Possibly both. It depends on the size, whether the pergola is attached to the house, and your city and community rules. We go over what applies during planning.
