Outdoor lighting installation

In Arizona the evening is when a yard gets used for much of the year. Lighting is what makes the patio, the paths and the planting usable and worth looking at after sunset.

We install low-voltage LED lighting as part of a landscape project, with fixtures placed for a purpose: seeing where you walk, lighting where you sit, and showing off trees, walls and features.

5-year workmanship warranty

Every outdoor lighting installation we build is covered by our 5-year workmanship warranty. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors holds contractors responsible for their workmanship for 2 years. We stand behind ours for more than twice that.

What we install

  • Path and step lights

Low fixtures that mark walkways, steps and changes in level.

  • Uplighting

Lights at the base of trees, cacti and walls that show their shape at night.

  • Patio and seating

Soft light for dining and seating areas, including under pergolas and along seat walls.

  • Entry and front yard

Lighting for the driveway, front path and house number.

Materials and design

Less is more
A few well-placed fixtures look better than many. The goal is to see the effect, not the bulb.
Color temperature
Warm white light suits stone, stucco and planting and is comfortable to sit in.
Control
A transformer with a timer or photocell turns the system on at dusk without anyone touching it.

Built for Arizona

  • Fixtures and wiring have to stand up to extreme heat and intense sun. Quality housings and sealed connections matter here.
  • Low-voltage LED systems use very little power.
  • Some communities have dark-sky or HOA rules on brightness and upward light. Shielded, downward and low-level fixtures keep a design within them.

How the installation goes

Installed by Horizon’s own crew. We do not subcontract our landscape installations.

  1. Lighting plan

We decide what to light and why, working from the landscape layout.

  2. Wiring

Cable is run before rock and planting are finished so it is buried and out of sight.

  3. Fixtures

Fixtures are mounted and connected to the transformer.

  4. Aiming

Lights are adjusted after dark so the angles and brightness are right.

Common questions

Is low-voltage lighting safe around a yard?

Yes. A transformer steps household power down to a low voltage, which is why it is the standard for landscape lighting around planting, paths and patios.

Can lighting be added to an existing yard?

Yes. It is simplest during a landscape project, when the ground is open, but cable can be run through an established yard with some care.

Will it raise my electric bill much?

LED landscape lighting uses a small fraction of the power older halogen systems did, so the running cost is low.
